After reading Kathleen Jabs‘ debut mystery novel, Black Wingsand being “completely taken away on Navy wings,”  Anna Walls interviewed Jabs for the Author Spotlight on “Beforeitsnews.”

In the Spotlight interview, Jabs spoke about growing up surrounded by books, entering the Naval Academy, and writing a first novel–“which I should probably burn.”  Then one creative writing teacher suggested she write about the military and with the flash of a thought, “Audrey Richards wanted to fly,” Jabs began what would be a ten year project.

After the familiar story of getting rejected by traditional publishers and having what she called a “novel-in-a-drawer,” she connected with Fuze editor Molly Tinsley who had good news–Fuze wanted to publish her mystery, and bad news, it needed reshaping and “speeding up.”  Jabs happily dove into the editing process, thrilled to find a home for her book.
