AUTHORS’ STATEMENT
We have the good fortune to have lived in Harpswell for many years. As are our friends, family, neighbors, and visitors, we too are continually struck by its beauty and diversity. The crashing waves, rocky shores, varied islands, spectacular sunrises and sunsets, historic structures, and points of interest remain compelling and inviting.
It was surprising to us that no one had published a pictorial book devoted to Harpswell. As photographers, and without hesitation, we decided we would be the ones to do so. Our collective photographic experience allowed us to capture the essence and soul of Harpswell. We each contributed our favorite photos, and, through this collaboration, sought to create a book showcasing its splendor. “Harpswell: Sea and Land Through the Lens” is the result of our labor of love.
Harpswell provides a wonderful sense of community, drawing together the residents in many unique and meaningful ways. Two volunteer organizations are devoted to the betterment of all its citizenry. Harpswell Heritage Land Trust (HHLT) seeks to maintain Harpswell’s beauty for future generations. Harpswell Aging at Home (HAH) seeks to create a better living environment for many of its elderly citizens.
To demonstrate our commitment to the missions of HHLTand HAH, we are devoting all profits from the sale of the books equally to each organization.

The Photographers:
Photography Is a Journey, Not a Destination
As a weekend photographer, I enjoyed snapping pho- tos of interesting places and designs in nature. In my 40’s, I enrolled in my first course at the Maine Media Workshop. My training began in the darkroom and moved to digital a few years later. Cameras became my constant companion, traveling with me across the globe. My photographs have been shown in galleries in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and Maine, winning awards in juried competition, including “best in show” at the Bruns- wick Art Festival. Harpswell is my home with my wife, Karetta, and our dog, Knuckles the beagle.

to digital, and I ran a Wedding Photography business. I had a solo showing of my photography in Washington, D.C. and have received awards from local and New England competitions. Harpswell is my home with my wife, Courtenay, and our cat, Toby (sometimes known as Mister Silly).
