Synergetic: The cooperation of two or more to produce a combined effect greater than their parts.
Friends, acquaintances, and family members often ask Molly and me to take a look at manuscripts they have written. Each one represents a quest for the Great American Novel or the non-fiction Great American Equivalent. Each one tells a fine story; each one is in need of a publisher. Our problem is not the quality of the work presented to us–it is the quantity. We are discovering the overwhelming number of original, enlightening stories that deserve publication. And we are a small press. We simply cannot publish all the fine manuscripts presented to us. So we are wracking our brains for ways to help new authors get published, and have come up with the idea of a Synergetic Alliance, modeled in some sense on the process that gave birth to Fuze Publishing.
Forming a Synergetic Alliance would begin with several trusting writer friends. It would involve the pooling of their resources, both financial and creative. Given the importance of design in bookmaking and web-site development, the group might include a visual artist. At least one person with superb editorial skills, one with accounting skills, and one with Internet skills should round out the mix. The group would then commit to critiquing, rewriting, and finally bringing out the work of its members, one by one. If this approach appeals to you, please check our web site in a couple of weeks. We will post an outline detailing steps that you might take to get published!
